my friend is giving me a sony vaio and ill be using it mainly for gaming. will it work good its not that old. I think it has Windows XP. please help me.

I have a Sony Viao VGN-FW140E which has full 1080p. I also have a HD-TV that is 1080p compatible. I used and HDMI cable to connect the two together and watch netflix offline, but my computer shows that it is only displaying 750p on my television. Any help?
My comps shows that it is transmitting in 750p or I can choose to switch it to 768p. its streaming video online, so it depends on the quality being transmitted?

It has a user name and needs a password. I heard something about pressing f8 when the computer is starting but I dont know how that works, please help, thanks!

Is the Sony VAIO superior in processing and all that, or should I just go for a drab, grey, reliable one?

Im thinking about getting the sony vaio fz. It’s customizable so i’m gonna get the 2.4 ghz dual core and really crappy hard drive and ram because the ram is alot of money for the amount and speed and the hard drive runs at 4200 Rpms for all of thier options. So I want to upgrade them with parts from circuit city or one of those places. So, is it possible to upgrade them? Also, is 4 mb cache, 800 mhz front system bus good?
